I added the background to this one, however, I have to re-shoot it at the lab with the pencil test machine.

This is a new pitch for my final film. I've change the perspective and the characters a bit.

Final Film Background

I am using this background for my final film.
I still have to figure out how to add color, but I'm getting there.

I wish I didn't have to post this so early, I am hesitant about it because it is so rough.
I do realize that it looks like the old man kisses the boy in the end (I gotta fix that) he is actually smelling to see if the boy ate the sausage.
Any suggestions?
Please be kind.

Character Design

The above are the character designs I've come up with.

Final Film idea

This is a rough storyboard of my final short film idea.
I am working on the key drawings and will post them over the weekend.
If its hard to see, my idea is:
Old lady coming home, the cat is going crazy jumping all over the house.
She slowly gets to the door and when she finally enters, the cat is asleep.

Yay! I finally have a finished short film. I tried to animate the light but it didn't come out as natural as I wanted, it kinda looks funny to me. I tried really hard to animate the character's hands and eyes, I even added a seat adjustment to the blue character and a head tilt. The yellow character has a lot of eye and hand movement, it was fun to play with him.
This was a good experience. Now I really appreciate animators who do feature films.

Ok, so this is what I have so far. I decided on importing Ollie on to the scene and this is what I have. Ollie still needs lots of help, but its coming along. I need to make both characters more believable, flexible, and relaxed. 3D is tough.
I'm not sure about adding the couple in background, I haven't made up my mind.

Character relationship:
two buddies going to the movies for a matinee. They're avoiding work and have gone into the dark cool theatre to kill some time.

Short film setup

This is the beginning of my scene. I am still working on the animation part and so I don't have a movie clip as of yet. I want to animate the mouths with the soundcllip (which is harder than I thought). After I get the sound and action down I'll add the couple in the background.

10/5/08

11 seconds idea

I didn't know how to approach this since I don't plan on moving the camera but here goes.
I plan on using the "11 Seconds Club" soundclip. I'll have two main characters set at the movies eating popcorn while a couple sits in the background making out. I'll rough it in 2D but finalize the short film in 3D using some of the resource rigs from the site.
The main characters are talking about the movie they are watching.

Character Design

These are the character designs I came up with during last week's class. We had to come up with three different characters based on the people in our class.

11 seconds favorite

This is my favorite "11 Seconds Club" entry. I like the expressions of the characters, the old lady is eerie and doesn't care to be caught. I also like that this was a different scenario from all the others I watched. Most entries included some sort of cup and a table, more like an interrogation when this one sets that old lady as the main character while the detective is investigating in the background. Good stuff!

Dialogue:
"Yay, a box is here! It's probably a present for me!"
"where's a stool... here we go" (jumps up to reach the box)
"It's so big! I bet it's something good... love it!"
"Should I open it?" (lays over the box)
"wait a minute, this is addressed to the neighbor"
"Oh s%#t!" (leans away)
"I am SO embarrassed!"

I added more frames to this throwing sequence. The turn is a bit more clear and the pick up is a little better. I kind of like that the paper is also animated (because of the way I shot it) but I don't know if its distracting.

Here is what I have so far for the "what's in the box?" assignment. My character is happy to receive a present then figures out that it's not for her so she gets really embarrassed.

Design

This is the design project. I had three objects to work with, a man, a truck, and a light post. I've placed them in different compositions but only using those objects.

Expressions

These are some drawings I did for the "what's in the box" assignment. I played around with facial expressions but I'm still not sure how to convey a story. I want my character to be excited to receive a package, he thinks he's getting a birthday present. He then realizes that the package is for someone else, and gets sad. Finally he gets angry for waiting for a package that never gets there.

I've added more frames and worked on the turn. Also, instead of the ball bouncing off the head it rolls on to the feet and then the character picks it up.

This is still a super rough draft. I need to add a lot more frames like as the ball falls toward my character, I'd like to bounce off his head and drop by his feet. Also I don't have a solid turn yet. Overall this is the idea and have lots more to work on.

This is a revised movie clip. There is a slight limp to the character but I kinda like it I think I'm going to accent it so that it's more obvious. Also then end needs to be fixed so that it looks more exaggerated. Hopefully it'll work out.

This is still a very rough sketch of my animation. I need to work on my character's actions, his frame position as well as his weight shift. I think I'll also change the camera angle so that it's not such a flat 2D plane view.

Character Design

I've been working on a character that has a rigid personality. I wanted for my character to be bald, wear glasses and have a little mustache. I am thinking of a bored overworked office manager so that he fits into my story.

This is the same walk as before except that I tried to work on the hip and the shoulder sway. As you can see, it didn't work so well for me. I had a lot of trouble making the shoulders or the hips sway without affecting one or the other. Walking doesn't come natural to me. I should go back to the cat.

I liked this rig better than the cat, however, I had a little tougher time with the hip sway than before. I'd like to fix that and the arm swaying back and forth.
